Truth: Mya’s napping and I should totally be making food for her birthday party tomorrow or cleaning the house… or sleeping. But I’d rather blog about the silly butterfly snacks we made for her preschool class. Priorities, am-i-right?! Yesterday was Mya’s 3rd Birthday(!) and she had school for a couple hours in the morning. We wanted to bring treats, and her teacher requested something besides sugary cupcakes or cookies to make her job easier. (Hey, I get it!) So we opted for some of Mya’s favorite foods: grapes and cheese (and popcorn on the side.) And since Mya loves herself some butterflies, here’s what went down…
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
clothespins
markers
googly eyes
hot glue gun and glue sticks
cheese sticks
grapes
ziplock bags (sandwich size)
WHAT TO DO
Mya was so into making these, which made it super fun. She just colored the clothespins with some markers, but you could decorate them however you’d like. Washi tape could be cool!
Once she colored all the clothespins, it was time for the googly eyes. The self adhesive on the back didn’t stick to the clothespins, so we had to bust out the glue gun and use that instead.
Then it was time for the food. I cut up some cheese sticks and then Mya got to work. Stuff some grapes on one side and cheese on the other.
The only problem I ran into was the cheese bandit…
Twist the ziplock bag in the middle and secure with a clothespin and wah-lah! Healthy butterfly snacks! And let’s just take a look at the red clothespin below with one eye. Mya said that one was Mike Wazowski, so he only got one eye. Love this girl’s humor!
Super simple, but fun to make with your little one. Ok, now I need to get real and get something done for Mya’s party tomorrow. Excuse me while I go bake some sugar cookies… from a box.
